A while ago I received a message from Kirsten who lost her beloved cat not so long ago. She hadn’t taken many photos of her cat in the past. The photos she had were taken with her phone and the quality didn’t impress her.

Eric and I have lost our cats Jesse and Tom last year. The first thing I did then was searching in my archives for photos to print and frame. To have something tangible, a photo, helps me to keep the memory alive and keep Jesse and Tom close to my heart.

Kirsten’s message touched me because I felt the sadness she must have felt not having a good photo.

‘What a great new challenge!’

After reading the message I got an idea. Mij fingers got itchy to try it out. What possibilities could I have when uploading the photos from Kirsten to my iPhone? Could I create something special with the ‘unappealing’ photos using some app processing? What a great new challenge!

Ever since I have got my iPhone I am an addict to iPhoneography. I use different apps to process my photos. What I like about shooting with my iPhone and processing the photos is that with almost any photo a wonderful work of art can be created. Well, of course not all.

I processed six photos in several different ways and I succeeded in creating something unique out of what seemed to be ordinary photos. Only five were usable in the end, one photo ended up quite small.

The possibilities with iPhoneography seem to be endless. The only ‘disadvantage’ is that the printable size isn’t too large, maximum size is 20x20cm or even no more than 13x13cm. But think about creating a gallery with four to six of your photos, framed with a passe-partout. That could be quite a sight.

This unique experiment has made me think about something new I can offer, JofabiPhoneography, a creative photo processing with your own photos. A ‘remote photo shoot’ includes an hour of processing with a maximum of five photos, an online photo book with the result, five prints from 13x13cm to 20x20cm (dependable on the size of your original photos) and the digital documents of the processed photos. Voor mijn lieve Jesse & Tom

Wow! De grote dag is aangebroken. Mijn hoofd suist en ik moet mezelf nog eens knijpen om te zien of ik toevallig niet droom.

Mijn “Pet Photography class” is online!

Eindelijk kan ik het met jullie delen: mijn “Pet Photography class” is online en je kunt je nu aanmelden!

Vorig jaar zijn Eric en ik twee van onze geliefde katten verloren, Jesse & Tom. Na die hartverscheurende gebeurtenissen dook ik in mijn archief om mooie foto’s te zoeken, in te lijsten en neer te zetten. Mijn manier om ze dichtbij te houden.

Sinds de zomer van 2010 doe ik mee met de online Picture Serie klassen van Tracey Clark bij Big Picture Classes. Het zien van de foto’s van geliefde huisdieren van mijn klasgenoten maakte dat ik wilde dat er een manier was waarop ik mijn liefde voor dieren en passie voor fotografie kon delen.

Was dit te combineren? Ik kreeg een idee en vroeg advies aan een paar vrienden. Het kreeg steeds meer vorm en uiteindelijk heb ik mijn idee aan Big Picture Classes voorgelegd. Het resultaat kun je nu bewonderen: de “Pet Photography class”.

Als je net zo van je huisdier houdt als ik van de mijne dan nodig ik je van harte uit om mee te doen. In de klas deel ik met je hoe je betere foto’s kunt maken, hoe ik als dierenfotograaf te werk ga en hoe je je lieve huisdier kunt vastleggen voor het leven.

De workshop is in één keer te downloaden, zodat je ‘m op je eigen tempo kunt doen. Omdat het ook gaat om plezier te hebben met je huisdier, kun je’m natuurlijk zo vaak doen als je wilt. Het resultaat van je fotosessie met je huisdier kun je uploaden in de gallery van de workshop. Natuurlijk hou ik deze gallery nauwlettend in de gaten en ben ik érg benieuwd naar de resultaten.

Het was een genot om deze workshop te maken, ik hoop dat jij er net zoveel plezier aan zult beleven als ik!

In loving memory of Jesse & Tom

Wow! The big day has come. My head is spinning with excitement. And I have to pinch myself too to see if I am not dreaming.

My Pet Photography class is online!

I can finally share it with you all: my Pet Photography class is online and registration is open.

Last year Eric & I lost two of our beloved cats, Jesse & Tom. After both heartbreaking moments I dived into my archives to look for good photo’s and frame them. My way of keeping them close.

Since Summer 2010 I am participating in Tracey Clark’s Picture Series classes with Big Picture Classes. Seeing photos of beloved pets from classmates I wished I could share my love for animals and passion for photography somehow.

Is there a combination possible? I got an idea and asked advice from friends. I finally wrote to Big Picture Classes, and the result is online now: The “Pet Photography class”!

If you love your pet as much as I do mine I would like to invite you to have a peek at the class description. And hopefully I can welcome you in the classroom. In the classroom I share how you can take better photos, I tell about how I work as an animal photographer and how the beautiful memory of a sweet pet can be captured for life.

The class is self-paced so you can start whenever you like. And because it is also about enjoying time with your pet it is something that you can do over and over again. Results of the photo shoots with your pet can be posted in the class gallery that I will be visiting as much as possible.

Creating the content of the class was so much fun. If you decide to join me in the classroom I hope you’ll enjoy it too.

Gisteren kreeg ik ineens een ingeving en vandaag ben ik creatief geweest.

Het resultaat is een prachtig cadeautje. Speciaal voor jou. Een kubus, met een zestal mooie Jofabi Foto originals, die je in de kerstboom kunt hangen.

En als je geen kerstboom hebt, je kunt ‘m ook aan een mooie tak in een vaas, aan een deurknop of met een punaise in het raam hangen.

Het is wel de bedoeling dat je de kubus zelf in elkaar knutselt. Wees gerust, ik heb het eenvoudig gehouden. Met een printer, stevig (foto) papier, een schaar en wat lijm kom je al een heel eind.

Je zou de kubus zelfs kunnen gebruiken als cadeauverpakking. (Suggesties: een mooie, klein opgevouwen, waardebon voor een Jofabi Foto fotosessie? of een ‘druppel’ voor Stichting Dierenopvang Bosnië?)

Yesterday I got inspired and today I got very creative.

The result is a beautiful small gift, especially for you. A cube, with six Jofabi Foto originals, which you can use as a decoration for the Christmas tree. Or, if you don’t have a Christmas tree, you could hang it in a window.

You do have to make the cube yourself however. But don’t be afraid I have made it simple. With a printer, firm (photo) paper, a pair of scissors and some glue you’ll come far.

The cube is even usable as gift-wrapping. (Suggestion: with a small gift card inside for a Jofabi Foto photoshoot? Or a ‘drop’ for the Bosnian Animal Foundation?).
